Driving For Dollars

Another episode of “As the Tires Turn!”

Seventeen years behind the wheel of a yellow cab and I thought I’d seen it all. Guess again! No matter how long I drive a taxi, there’s always a new and bizarre experience waiting around the corner.

Like last Sunday…I had dropped off a passenger at Mercer and Spring when miraculously (it was 3:30 AM), another fare appeared across the intersection.

One minute later, out came a guy from the bar.

“33rd and Lexington, please,” said the fare. I turned around to discover the same guy taking the same ride — just twenty minutes later.

Geez!?!?! Was I crazy? Does this guy have a twin brother? I asked the man how it came to be that he was repeating his previous ride 30 minutes after he’d taken the…
