When Your Time Has Gone Away

When your time has gone away
do not look upon the world with spite or envy.
When the youth of children happily plays
and life in your age begins to stray
as you can only sit calmly and think
of your past when the future was brightly lit
and wide open with hope — do not dismay.

For your years may stand behind you
though but a testament for you having lived.
And all of the splendid moments contained therein
At the pinnacle of everything you ever did.

You will be at your height, and all will be accomplished
Your possibilities lie conquered and vanquished
You’ve traversed your path and etched it in stone
Inscribed into the history of the world with your own flesh and bone.

Your regret, your laughter, your tears, your mistakes
Hold on to these memories, for their own sakes.
You had experienced it all through good and bad times
Through the various formations of stars, which upon you had shined

Know in yourself that all was not lost
Do not hate that everything goes away
For the beauty of life is both love and loss
And for life, death is the price that we pay

To simply have lived is to have lived greatly
Through the wonder of each breathing moment
And the value yielded in life itself innately
A sentient being, the fundamental component

To have existed, is to have existed well
Better to love and have lost, than never loved before
To have existed is to have a story to tell
And that story is the story if the life which was yours.
