An employee of UNIBEN kills himself due to financial problems

Prince Carter Oshodin, a member of the University of Benin personnel, killed himself on Friday due to his severe financial circumstances.

Oshodin worked as a data entry clerk at the university but hadn’t received his salary in months since university unions were on strike.

It was learned that the deceased’s Non-Academic Staff Union recently called off its strike, although the members hadn’t yet received their salaries.

Oshodin’s Facebook page verified his UNIBEN job description.

Another colleague who goes by the name Edward reported that the Late Oshodin complained on his Facebook page that he was struggling to make ends meet and was having a hard time affording his two daughters’ tuition.

He started, “He committed suicide on Friday and according to a post on his Facebook, he said he was facing financial difficulties and could pay the school fees of his two young daughters. It is a pathetic situation.”

By the time this story was filed, neither SP Chidi Nwabuzor, public relations officer for the Edo State Command Police, nor Dr. Benedicta Ehanire, public relations officer for UNiBEN, had responded to text messages given to them.
