7 Signs of a Bad Friend

Here are 7 questions to ask yourself when you’re unsure of where your pal stands in your life. (But if you’re already reading this, I think we both know the answer to that one…)

If your friend isn’t doing the most to celebrate your accomplishments- popping the champaign, screaming to the hilltops, smiling endlessly… that ain’t it, sis.

On the same note, if you come to them with news that you didn’t get that job or you didn’t get that promotion, or that guy didn’t text you back - and they have a smirk on their face, or they say something along the lines of “it could be worse” or “well at least you didn’t have *xyz* happen to you… LiKe hOw iT hApPeNeD tO mE”… RUN.

Good friends boost energy in both cases. They don’t kill the vibe with “oh I wish that good thing would happen to me” or downplay your accomplishments. They also don’t diminish your feelings when you‘re upset by telling you your dramatic or lucky you didn’t have “xyz” happen to you. Good friends just let you be in the moment and feel how you want to feel and try to hype you up without gaslighting!

We’ve all had that friend who tries to act too cool for you in front of a new boy or new gal pal. NO NO NO. If your friend is acting shady, embarrassed of you, or just totally off the cuff and not at all how they normally act- that’s a BIG red flag.

*Bonus points if they call you “stupid”, “dumb”, or other variations of those insults in front of others.*

This is a big one. If your friend isn’t interrogating (with poise) the living daylights out of this man/woman upon their first time of interacting… what are they doing??? Don’t they want to know that their bestie is in good hands? Don’t they want to know that this person isn’t a total bum that just wants a plus one to their cousin’s wedding? A good bestie needs ANSWERS.
