How to Fill a Blank CV and Land Your Ideal Opportunity?

I initially assumed that the vast array of job openings on LinkedIn and various ad displays would make finding a job a breeze. However, I quickly discovered that this wasn’t the case. With countless opportunities available, securing the ideal position proved to be quite challenging： How do I select the right employer, and more importantly, how do I ensure that they choose me?

As a job seeker, I was inundated with job ads from various sectors, including digital organizations, marketing, education, and charities or social enterprises. I felt like someone at a crossroads without a map, unsure which path to choose. Overwhelmed and concerned, I decided to reflect on my future goals in order to identify opportunities that aligned with my aspirations.

I have always thought of myself as a person with a clear purpose in life. Most people are probably still confused about their career plans until college. But I had this idea in elementary school that I wanted to study psychology in the future and I kept it that way. However, this is only a general direction without a clear plan: what is my goal; How do I get there… I realized that I never had a detailed career plan for this.

I began to think seriously about what I wanted to do: I want to be a psychological consultant! I want to focus on teenagers! Helping people with mental health is the most important thing to me. Therefore, I started looking for internships in education, charities and social enterprises.

As I delved into my job search, I discovered that many positions had mandatory requirements such as relevant work experience or a specific number of hours worked. My lack of experience made me anxious and I quickly realize that I needed to create a more strategic plan for my future job search.

Faced with a blank CV, I identified areas I needed to improve on: relevant experience, grades, certifications, and additional skills. Thankfully, as a second-year student, I still had time to enhance my CV. I resolved to seek out internships related to my major during summer vacation and learn extra skills in the meantime.

My initial struggles with a blank CV have now transformed into a guiding light for my future career path. By carefully considering my passions and goals, I was able to narrow down my focus and create a strategic plan for filling the gaps in my CV. Having a clear direction will lead you to your ideal opportunity.
