5 ways to deal with loss and pain

5 ways to deal with loss and pain

The recent pandemic has been challenging for all of us. We are forced to adapt to new realities. Many of us have dealt with losses — loss of near and dear ones, jobs, businesses and drove us to the edge.

So how do we stay strong as individuals, and as a society? How do we acknowledge the loss and work towards building a strong world within us?

There is no right or wrong way to deal with any kind of loss, but there are healthy ways to deal with them.

1. Accept > Don’t live in denial.

Even a subtle loss in your life is important to you. Whatever your loss, it’s very personal to you, so don’t feel embarrassed about how you feel. Don’t live in denial either. The losses we have witnessed in this year were not in our control. It is very important to accept your loss. Whether it’s a personal or professional loss, cherish good memories and accept that you have to move on. That will be half the battle won.

2. Start a gratitude journal > Every day.

This is a very important daily activity. As important as eating food every day. Start writing 10 things about your life (past and present) that you are grateful for. Thank every single living and non-living being in your life. Include the loss (of someone or something) for being a part of your life and how you cherish their good memories.

3. Stay active > Physical exercise.

As simple as a brisk walk, run, cycling, or yoga for 30–45 mins is good to channelize your energies into a positive frame of mind. Any kind of physical exercise will recharge your mind and body to focus on the present and work towards a better future. Choose a time in a day as per your convenience and stick with your fitness regime. If you are conscious about your health, you can overcome any loss in life.

4. Get up and get going > Take action.

The above 3 steps will definitely create an inner strength in you, to move on with life. A positive mind and body will help you to take charge of your life. Do it for the good memories of someone or something to become a better version of yourself in your personal or professional life. These terrible losses have taught us how everything in life is temporary. So, make the most of your life, for your own self and for others who matter in your life.

5. Confide your feelings > Friends and Family.

Dealing with losses is not easy. While you are working towards overcoming them, it is also important to let out your feelings. Do not hesitate to reach out to your close friends and family members, to confide in them how you feel about your loss. They may not have the answers, but someone holding your hand and a warm hug are so very comforting to give you the confidence to move forward and stay strong.

With compassion in your heart and a smile, enter into a new day every day. Choose hope, faith, and love!

Cheers :)
