Trump has already suggested he plans to run for president again in 2024 and rumors have been floated that he may start his own cable news channel or Fox News may pay out to hire him. This way he can continue to hold his beloved rallies, and manipulate the national politics reporters who have devoted the last four years of their lives to extensively reporting the president’s every word, deed, and tweet.

If there’s one thing we learned from the Trump presidency, it’s that the show must go on. There’s no reason to believe that will change once he leaves the White House. Gird your loins for more of his schtick.

But late Monday, the General Services Administration declared Biden as the official winner and signed off on beginning the presidential transition of power. While seemingly everyone assumed Trump would rather be dragged out of the White House, Trump signaled that he supported the GSA decision, for the first time, it seems, implicitly acknowledging he did not win a second term in office. It’s clear Trump is looking at a transition of his own — into a president-in-exile.

In 1957, Joe Coulombe knew nothing about the grocery industry. He was 27 years old and had never taken a course in retail. He had never operated a cash register, waited on a customer, or filled out a purchase order for a wholesaler. Joe is named president, and the fleet of stores that will become Trader Joe’s of today is born.Some readers may sense or believe that I am implicitly discounting the possibility that there was, in fact, a large-scale conspiracy between the Democratic party (minus its Senate and House candidates), the state electoral commissions & many members of the Republican party for the explicit purpose of committing electoral fraud on a massive scale. I also tend to discount the possibility that space reptiles, partnered with the derros and Elon Musk, used orbital mind control lasers to quantum-shift fluoride to vibrate at 440hz and thereby force people to vote for Biden against their will.Everything in this piece is intended as an assertion of the opinions of the author, and are not factual assertions. From his new presidential-pretender perch, he can continue to fire off half-baked tweets on whatever is happening politically, or whatever the latest right-wing media obsession is. His supporters will continue to worship in a way that no one ever did with former failed presidential candidates Al Gore, John McCain, or Mitt Romney.
His first act as president was to find what he thought was the best run grocer in town and apprentice himself, offering to work free on weekends in exchange for a half hour of the owner’s time after each shift. The owner was giddy — a Stanford grad mopping his floors! — so for months, Joe spent his weekends slicing boxes and stocking shelves, before heading to the back office with notebook and pen, asking every simple question that came to mind.
Trump has primed the nation for his exile by insisting without evidence the election was stolen from him. That, along with his solid supporter base, would prime him for his new role as opposition leader.

I am aware of “the lawyer’s obligation zealously to protect and pursue a client’s legitimate interests, within the bounds of the law, while maintaining a professional, courteous and civil attitude toward all persons involved in the legal system.” This duty of zealous representation, however, does not come close to excusing the conduct of Trump’s attorneys. It does not, for example, excuse lying in public, submitting false or misleading evidence, or filing frivolous lawsuits, let alone serving as an accomplice to criminality. The ethics rules also state that a lawyer is “an officer of the legal system and a public citizen having special responsibility for the quality of justice.”A power vacuum typically occurs in the losing party once a presidential election is over; losing candidates are usually swept away for fresh faces. But even though Republican lawmakers have privately grumbled about him for years, no one has shown any ambition for succeeding Trump as de facto party leader. Anyone seeking to do so would have to find a way to win over Trump supporters, which would likely take getting Trump’s personal approval. This might be why no GOP lawmakers have publicly broken with the president, they’re waiting for him to disappear so they can scoop up his supporter base.If there’s one thing we learned from the Trump presidency, it’s that the show must go on. The highlighting of the horrendously ethically-challenged lawyering by Trump’s attorneys does not deny, imply or otherwise suggest that there are not also good and publicly lawyers in this world, committed to the honest and fair operation of the justice system, whether in the private bar, non-profit, or government sectors. You in fact, may be one of those lawyers, and feel unfairly maligned. My point is suggest what cannot be denied: that there are some inherent ethical dangers created by the process of lawyering, dangers well illustrated by the ongoing saga of the elite strike force.

No one doubts that an attorney should work hard to advance the interests of their clients. But the ideal of the wise counsel, the prudential voice, the careful lawyer has been increasingly eclipsed by another vision: the lawyer as yet another highly paid enabler. The insanity of Trump’s lawyers, in this respect, is an exaggerated mirror of what we’ve allowed legal practice to become.

Trump can usurp that process by immediately launching another presidential run for 2024. He can also leverage his armed supporter base against potential future criminal charges in district court.

Over the last two weeks and change, the Trump has refused to acknowledge that he lost the election, instead stoking conspiracy theories and latching onto half-baked legal challenges in a desperate attempt to maintain legitimacy.
